Adam suggests there is a lot more structure these days in the way that research studies are conducted compared to when he was studying. Two of the most important things he learned from his research supervisor are resilience and honour. Adam also developed valuable skills in project management.

Now a research lecturer at CQUniversity himself, Adam encourages his students to get back up and keep on going, regardless of the setbacks: "It's not the smartest person that succeeds, it’s the person that can get up when knocked down and continue forward."

During his research studies, Adam represented CQUniversity at the State and National Water Research Awards, which he considers one of his best memories of studying at CQU. Adam is also the recipient of the 2017 Australian Water Associations Student Water Prize, awarded for his contribution to the Australian water industry, particularly in regional Queensland.
