Michael is a Civil Designer at Livingstone Shire Council. He initially accepted a role with a small company in Rockhampton but left after 8 months due to a lack of mentoring. He then applied for and was awarded his current role with Livingstone Council where he receives plenty of support and training to help progress towards a Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) certification.

Before study, Michael worked in oil and gas fields all over the world. He held a prestigious role with great pay but was missing out on the satisfaction of working in a career that he was truly interested in. He chose to study at CQUni because of the rural location and distance learning opportunities.

Michael works a 9-day fortnight with flexible hours which allows him a great work life balance. He works mostly from a computer, designing infrastructure for the town. He also gets outside for frequent worksite visits and keeps in touch with the construction crews.

Michael feels his engineering honours degree has given him full access to any civil engineering job he wants to pursue as the degree is widely recognised around the world. For now, he just hopes to keep working hard and gaining experience in the areas which interest him the most.
