Sheryl decided to pursue study to assist her recovery after an injury and widen her employment options. Sheryl selected a Diploma of Arts at CQUni after she attended an Open Day at the Cairns Campus, finding the flexibility of online study appealing.

Sheryl is the Executive Assistant at Paronella Park - a heritage-listed tourist attraction located 120km south of Cairns. She is also completing a Bachelor of Arts and finds her history major has brought great benefit to areas of research and the production of historical documents.

One of Sheryl's career highlights was delivering a historical paper in June 2019 at La Trobe University, Melbourne for the Chinese Studies Association of Australia (CSAA) conference. Sheryl's paper was titled Pioneering Chinese of Geraldton (Innisfail), Queensland – Migration, Industry and Culture.

In 2018 Sheryl completed an oral history project at Paronella Park, which brought together and recorded the attendees of the first wedding reception in 1939 for their addition to the Gallery Collection.
