Dr. Thomas Doering is a Lecturer in the School of Health, Medical and Applied Sciences at CQUniversity. He has a Bachelor of Exercise Science and Honours from the University of Tasmania, and a PhD from CQUniversity. He is an Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) Accredited Sports Scientist (ASpS2) and Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP).

Thomas' doctoral research centred on master's athletes and their dietary practices after exercise. The primary study of Thomas' PhD research was titled 'Lower integrated muscle protein synthesis in masters compared to younger athletes' and was published in ‘Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise' journal. This research examined why older athletes take longer to recover after muscle damaging physical activity compared to younger athletes. Thomas' postdoctoral research further used muscle biopsies to examine skeletal muscle responses to nutrition, detraining and limb immobilisation. His current research is focussed on applied sport and exercise science in both team-sport and endurance athletes of all ages.

Studying at a regional university has been a fulfilling way for Thomas to begin his career.

"I've learnt a lot here in Rockhampton [from] the passionate people I've been involved with at CQUniversity".
