During my tenure as Lecture for Singapore Polytechnic, a group of my colleagues decided to embark on CQU Professional Doctorate program when it was introduced in Singapore. With approval from Polytechnic as part of our advanced continuing education, three of us enrolled.
I completed my degree from CQU in 2005, and I found that it spearheaded my career to greater heights. I had roles in varied fields, including academia, industry, consulting, and leadership positions. Documenting my journey, reflecting on skills and values, and leveraging the doctorate's transferable skills are key to my successful transition. I built a community network and actively sought opportunities to contribute more to the society. It also inspired me to become a certified Trainer and a certified Management Consultant. To widen my experience, I also trained to become a Certified Mental Wellness Coach and Facilitator to assist ageing community support.
I now work for Lentor Health, researching Dementia. I joined a Nursing Home to help design special activity programs to engage the elderly to prevent further decline of dementia. Eventually my expertise expanded to more areas, such as adding Training Director to my portfolio, and becoming Head of Psychosocial Program. I am now responsible for five Nursing Homes and Senior Day Cares centres in Singapore. My degree added to my credibility and standing in the community and has led to fulfilling career opportunities, including my current role contributing to the engagement of the elderly community in Singapore.
