Unique Student Identifier (USI)
A USI is your individual education number for life. It also gives you an online record of your vocational education and training (VET) undertaken in Australia. If you're at university, TAFE or doing other nationally recognised training, you need a USI. Without one, you can't get Commonwealth financial assistance or your qualification or statement of attainment.
A USI is a requirement to be eligible to receive a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) and Commonwealth financial assistance such as HECS-HELP, FEE-HELP, and OS-HELP. From 1 January 2023, all students must have, and provide, a USI in order to graduate and receive their award.
You will need a USI to submit your application to study. You can apply for a USI at any time and it only takes five minutes to create one. You will need at least one form of valid identification to complete the process.
Once you have your USI, you're ready to apply. Depending on the course you’re applying for, you may be asked to supply your USI during your application or you will receive a task in the student portal, MyCQU, to supply it before the first census date.
Think you might already have a USI? If you have previously completed any VET study, you may already have a USI and can search for your existing USI.
International onshore students can apply for a USI once in Australia.
