Battle of the business brains

Students from regional Queensland high schools have gone head-to-head in the 2025 CQUniversity School Business Challenge to solve real-world business problems.
Almost 200 students from across 30 schools competed in the annual event which involved Accounting, Business and Management, Economics and Law, and General Knowledge subjects.
Sponsors of the event included PVW Partners Accountants and Advisors, Kenna Chartered Accountants, Chartered Accounting ANZ, and BDO.
Event organiser and Senior Lecturer in Accounting Dr Martin Turner said the challenge has continued to grow each year, offering students a unique and enjoyable opportunity to connect with university learning while developing teamwork, communication and critical thinking skills.
“Every year, the bar gets higher,” Dr Turner said.
“It’s fantastic to watch students from across Queensland connecting and competing in such a dynamic way. They are developing the kind of skills that will serve them well, whether they go into business, law, or anywhere else.
“This year we had eight schools from North Queensland, 13 schools across Central Queensland and four from the Bundaberg and Wide Bay area.”
Top teams from each region advanced to the final round with Annandale Christian College from Townsville rising as the overall champions. The winning team received $4000 in scholarships at CQU for each student, a $1500 prize for their school, and the perpetual trophy.

Shalom College from Bundaberg received second place, along with a $500 cash prize.
“The challenge once again demonstrated the remarkable talent and enthusiasm of regional Queensland students,” Dr Turner said.
“We look forward to supporting these bright minds as they prepare for successful futures in business, law, and beyond.”
