CQUniCares Emergency Grant

CQUniCares Emergency Grants are funded through the generosity of CQUniversity staff, Alumni and supporters. The Emergency Grants support low-income students in need of urgent financial assistance, helping them to continue their studies.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to receive the CQUniCares Emergency Grant, an applicant must:

  • be enrolled and actively studying in either a CQUniversity Certificate (I-IV); Enabling/Pathway; Undergraduate or Postgraduate program;
  • be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a humanitarian visa;
  • have not previously received a CQUniCares Emergency Grant in the year of application;
  • be in receipt of a Centrelink benefit or can demonstrate low personal/family income;
  • be facing an unexpected educational expense, or unexpected change of personal situation

Selection Criteria

Applicants will be assessed based on an application form, supporting documentation and personal statement demonstrating a genuine need for a CQUniCares Emergency Grant by addressing the following:

  • How will the Emergency Grant assist you to progress your studies at CQUniversity this year?

Additional Information

Payment of the Grant

Payment of the CQUniCares Emergency Grant will be made via electronic funds transfer to the bank account nominated by the student. Payment is usually made within two weeks of the successful outcome.

Terms and Conditions of the Grant

As there is a limited allocation of CQUniCares Emergency Grants, the decision regarding successful applications will be final. The Student Life and Wellbeing Centre reserves the right to the discretionary use of funds.

CQUniCares Emergency Grants are funded by our generous CQUniversity Staff, Alumni and community, though the CQUniCares Student Success Fund, to help students like you.

CQUniversity may approach you to share your story in media and at events to show how the Grants have assisted you. This helps positively promote the CQUniCares Emergency Grants across our networks to help more students continue their studies.

Supporting Documentation

Applications must include all necessary supporting documents. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applicants will need to supply the following supporting documentation:

  • Personal statement addressing the selection criteria
    • Personal statement should also include any additional information that may assist with the assessment of your application – opportunity to explain your personal, financial, living or study situation relevant to the emergency
  • Quotes/invoice or bill/statements etc to confirm the urgency of assistance required and what the grant will be used to assist with
  • Evidence of income of applicant and
  • Income for their partner (if partnered)
  • Income for their parents (if under 22 and not deemed ‘independent’ by Centrelink)

Possible required documents for low income evidence:

  • Centrelink Income Statements (if applicable) –
  • for yourself
  • your partner if partnered or
  • parent/s if you are under 22 years of age

  • 3 x current consecutive payslips (if applicable) –
  • for yourself and/or
  • your partner if partnered or
  • parent/s if you are under 22 years of age
  • Latest Notice of Assessment or most recent Tax Return (If you or your partner are in receipt of business or investment income)
  • 3 months of all personal or business bank account statements

How to apply

To apply for the CQUni Cares Grant:

  1. Read the  Grant Guidelines
  2. Complete a Grant Application Form
  3. Ensure all supporting documentation is completed and attached as outlined in the Grant Guidelines and Application Form.
  4. Submit your Grant Application to the Student Life and Wellbeing Centre  - refer to the Grant Application Form for submission options.

How will I know the outcome of my application?

Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their applications as soon as possible after they have been assessed.
