Allied Health Assistants work under the direct supervision of health care professionals (such as doctors and nurses) to provide therapeutic and program-related support in a variety of assistant roles such as occupational therapy, physiotherapy, podiatry, speech pathology and nutrition.

This qualification reflects the role of allied health assistants who provide assistance to allied health professionals under predetermined guidelines. Depending on the setting, work may include following treatment plans for therapeutic interventions and/or conducting programs under the regular direct, indirect or remote supervision of an allied health professional. 

This is a nationally recognised accredited course.

Students will be placed at the Mackay Hospital and Health Service, which is the host employer. Australian Training Works is the GTO. 

Vocational Placement is a compulsory part of this course, please refer to the Vocational Placement Guidelines for more details and requirements. Students must meet mandatory requirements as per CQUniversity policy prior to placement. Students studying this course will need to attend one, compulsory three day practical skills workshop. Students will be required to have completed this workshop prior to attending a practical work placement. Workshops details will be provided by your teacher and students should confirm workshop dates and attendance prior to booking travel and accommodation.

Throughout the duration of this course, students studying by Mixed Mode will be required to attend Residential Schools.

The Mixed Mode offering has four 3-4 day residential blocks spread throughout the year.

All residential school blocks are compulsory to attend.

This course format forms part of the Big Dreams Small Steps Program, developed by CQUni and Mackay Hospital and Health Services. The program is offered to local Indigenous High-School students. The entry point for these students is Year 11 via the HLT23215 Certificate II Health Support Services. Students who successfully complete the Certificate II, may be invited to participate in the HLT33015 Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance School-Based Traineeship. 

Entry into Big Dreams Small Steps is intended to be promoted annually to students finishing Year 10 (students will commence study in Year 11). 

(PLEASE NOTE: 2021 is a pilot year)

however all students are required to collect and complete mandatory checks as per CQUniversity policy in preparation for the compulsory vocational placement. Please make yourself familiar with the Compulsory Pre-Placement Requirements.
