STEP 4 - Understand your financial commitments
Check your Offer Letter to confirm which of the following fees apply to your enrolment:
- Student Contributions; or
- Domestic Full Fees.
In addition to these fees, all degree-level students will also be required to pay a Student Services and Amenities Fee.
Please check the Fee Type listed on your Offer Letter and select from the below:
Only a select number of postgraduate courses offer this Fee Type. If your Offer Letter states Full Fee, please be sure to refer to the Full Fee section of this page. If your Offer Letter lists Student Contribution, you have been offered a Commonwealth Supported Place. This means the Australian Government supports your enrolment by subsidising your fees.
You MUST submit a Request for Commonwealth support and HECS-HELP Form before the Census date this term to secure your Commonwealth Supported Place. If you do not do so, your enrolment will be cancelled. This is due to government regulations and can only be avoided by submitting this form before the Census date of your first term. All students who are offered a Commonwealth Supported Place are required to complete this form, even if they do not intend to or are not eligible to defer their Student Contribution.
An electronic Commonwealth Assistance Form is available in MyCentre. For help with completing this form, please visit the Submit a Request for Commonwealth support and HECS-HELP Form instruction sheet.
Before completing this form, please have your Tax File Number ready to input. You MUST complete this form before the Census date this term, or your enrolment will be cancelled. Census dates can be found in Plan My Study section of the CQUni Handbook at www.cqu.edu.au/handbook.
HECS-HELP refers to the student loan scheme that allows Australian Citizens in Commonwealth Supported Places to defer their Student Contribution.
The Commonwealth of Australia has recently passed the Higher Education Legislation Amendment (Miscellaneous Measures) Bill 2015 that amends eligibility conditions in the Higher Education Support Act 2003 (HESA) for tertiary students.
This will enable some New Zealand Citizens who are Special Category Visa holders to be eligible for HELP assistance from 1 January 2016. This includes access to HECS-HELP, FEE-HELP, VET FEE-HELP, OS-HELP, and SA-HELP loans. If you are a New Zealand citizen, check your eligibility for HELP assistance.
Students who do not intend to or are not eligible to defer their Student Contribution must pay their Student Contribution before midnight on the Census date each term. For assistance making an upfront payment please visit the How to make a payment instruction sheet.
