Sue had been working on writing the story of her life with her adoptive parents for many years, and decided to enrol in a research program to help her complete the long-term project. Diving into the research with her supervisor meant she was able to develop her writing style and skills, critical thinking, performative style, and connections with other writers while finishing her book.
Sue now works as a writer and freelance proofreader and loves the flexibility of working on her own timeline. She proofreads and edits theses and other academic works, and is about to embark upon an essay and a reworking of the memoir she wrote for her PhD.
Thesis title: 'A shark in the garden': adoptee memoir as testimony literature - a creative and exegetical reflection
