Sherene Devlin has made an outstanding contribution to the field of nursing and primary health care during the last 14 years of her practice, resulting in her being recognised with the 2016 Industry Contribution Alumni Award.
Sherene’s community impact became evident when she established her own clinic and offered the first bulk-billed Narrowband UVB Phototherapy dermatology treatment so client’s no longer had to travel. She has reduced lengthy wait periods to access a dermatologist and provided fly-in-fly-out Psoriasis clinics in Rockhampton and Townsville. The first nurse practitioner to specialise in Psoriasis Management in Australia, Sherene is also the only nurse who has established a clinic that specialises in chronic inflammatory skin conditions.
In recognition of her remarkable achievements, contribution as a health care professional, and the positive impact she has had on the lives of many, she was awarded the Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association’s 2016/17 Nurse of the Year. The significance of the award is demonstrated by the fact she is one of more than 80,000 Practise Nurses Australia-wide.
Sherene continues to mentor other nurse practitioners during their studies and has been described by colleagues as extremely humble and an inspiration, who gains great pleasure in helping others.
