My training at CQU was very helpful in my career as I am now Director of a 52 bed Intensive Care Unit (with over 145 staff) in Florida which bills US $108 mill per annum. I work for HCA (Hospital Corporation of America, the biggest hospital provider in the world! or at least in the USA).
My Masters in Nursing from CQU made me very marketable, as running such a big “medical business” needs not only clinical skill and knowledge but a business sense as well.
The USA health system is very different and to be Australian leading such a large team is novel to say the least. I am the only one!! I have had to learn a whole new language and way of doing things but my education from Australia and NZ has really been my strength.
At present my unit is the flagship in our market for ICU care. I have been a Director and Sepsis Program Coordinator for HCA/ JFK Medical Center for over 5 years now. It is long hours and a lot of hard work but worth it.
