As a distance student from regional Victoria, I completed a lot of my studies on my own without the benefit of peer contact. I only attended Melbourne campus once for an exam. I had the added distractions of full time work, family and television! The only way I was able to manage was a weekly study schedule.
The success I achieved can be attributed to persistence and commitment. Completing a double degree over 8 years balanced with full-time work, family and other commitments has made me feel like if you just put one foot in front of the other you can achieve anything. I wish I had better utilised the Academic Learning Centre, as this would have made my first year easier. There is heaps of assistance available. Make yourself familiar with the options and know that it is not a sign of weakness to ask for help.
