I had two main reasons for choosing CQU; the first is that CQU offered an undergraduate degree in my field of interest (health promotion) at a time when most study options in this field were postgraduate. The second reason was the flexibility offered through studying by distance, which enabled me to stay in my hometown.
By completing my degree, I have been easily able to secure employment in my field. In some ways I am still unique in that most people working in health promotion have other qualifications. However, my degree gives me a very strong foundation on health promotion theory and principles.
I’ve enjoyed working on a number of different projects and applying my skills in various ways. Some highlights include resource development such as story books and DVDs, making healthy changes in childcare centres, and an interesting project using art to address smoking in the Aboriginal community.
