Jen enjoyed completing fieldwork during her research studies and conducting numerous interviews, focus groups and conversations with people from Yeppoon to Winton. The most useful skill she learned was how to conduct research conversations that will lead to quality data and useful findings.
Jen has had a rewarding career progression after completing her PhD at CQUniversity. After a few years of sessional teaching and working for the Queensland Art Gallery, she received her first academic appointment at the University of Canberra. In 2007 she was promoted to full Professor, and she is now a Distinguished Professor of Creative Practice and Dean of Graduate Research.
Jen’s best tip for future researchers is to remember that your PhD is only the beginning of your research career: “It's not the biggest thing you will ever do, so relax, do good work, and don't try to answer all the questions in this one project.“
