I am the Campus Coordinator for CQUniversity Emerald Campus and an elected member of Central Highlands Regional Council. Both positions require me to work at a strategic level on issues involving tertiary education, community and economic development in the Central Highlands region.
I am also a board member for Central Highlands Regional Resource Use Planning Cooperative (CHRRUP) and Regional Development Australia (RDA) Fitzroy and Central West.
Being passionate about community engagement, I became a Councillor to instigate a new way of thinking and to empower the community with a more strategic and fresh outlook. I went about this by becoming a key player in the implementation of the Council’s Community Plan. I am currently involved in a pilot program where the Capella Community Reference Group liaises with Council regarding service delivery and community needs. Council advocates to stakeholders on any issues outside its scope. This process has built trust with the communities who are better informed and now understand the challenges and opportunities that need to be considered by Council.
My community involvement has spanned more than 20 years with long-standing bonds developed throughout the region. I am well respected due to my committed, passionate and collaborative approach that results in strong relationships built on honesty and integrity. I assist with a range of issues that span education, economic development, social, cultural and the natural and built environment. I believe it is important to recognize and progress community and regional opportunities and attend most community events.
