Craig Foster is one of Australia's most well-known and respected football identities. He achieved on-field success in both England and Australia before moving into the media as an expert commentator and analyst. As a player, Craig made 29 appearances for Australia's national team, the Socceroos, including as captain of the team. He also had leadership roles at Crystal Palace FC in the UK and Australian National Soccer League side, Northern Spirit FC. After retiring from football, Craig joined SBS Television full time and is now synonymous with football media coverage in Australia. Today, he remains a valuable member of SBS’ weekly football forum The World Game and is a regular commentator for the UEFA Champions League and FA Cup Final matches.
Off the pitch, Craig is a strong advocate for players' rights, having served for the past five years on the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) Executive formerly as a member of the Advisory Board and recently taking over as Chief Executive Officer. He has formerly also served as a director of the commercial arm of PFA.
Craig is an Amnesty Human Rights and Refugee ambassador, supporting humanitarian projects across the globe. He made headlines in 2018 when he spearheaded a campaign to have Australian footballer and refugee Hakeem al-Araibi released from detention in Thailand. He is the architect of the ‘Play for Lives’ campaign, marshalling the Australian sporting community to provide volunteer support throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
