Southern Utah University (USA)

Study Abroad Testimonial - Peter

This year I spent six months studying at Southern Utah University (SUU) in the USA. The experience I gained from my exchange exceeded all expectations. As an education student I used my spare time to visit many USA state high schools so I could compare first-hand the Australian education system compared to USA's. I also chose to replace a number of my elective degree subjects with specialised subjects offered by SUU; specifically, with computer-aided design and business management focus. I also had an extra subject I could choose at my leisure, which resulted in learning the basics of photography. Unfortunately, both golf and scuba diving clashed with my other course choices. If you really want to experience student life at a university at its best, then I encourage you to seek an exchange program. Every day of every week at SUU there was a free activity where hundreds of students would participate and have fun. I attended sporting and other student events 3 to 4 times a week. Often these involved brass bands, fireworks, cheer squads, prizes and much more. On the weekend I went ice fishing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, moonlight camping in the snow and four wheel driving with locals and other international students. Local entertainment venues also featured somewhere in the itinerary. About twenty of my friends would regularly gather together to experience the local USA lifestyle. The facilities for students at SUU are akin to a five-star resort. The locals are among the friendliest people I have ever met in the world - and I have travelled around the globe. I now have many Facebook international friends forever. I made my dream come true - you can as well, with a CQU partner exchange.
