Improving Safety in the Fitness Industry Through Legal Risk Management
CQUniversity research is helping make the fitness industry safer through better risk management. The Australian Fitness Industry Risk Management (AFIRM) project has helped shape how the fitness industry perceives, utilises and embeds risk management in their practices to ensure quality of services that put the health and safety of the community first.
The research resulted in a Fitness Industry Risk Manual and the Fitness Industry Standards Council, which are administered and managed by the peak industry organisation Fitness Australia. Implementation has led to improved outcomes for fitness service consumers through better quality service that meets duty of care requirements. The AFIRM project also informed risk management guidelines developed by Exercise and Sport Sciences Australia.
