Biological Sciences

The discipline of Biological Science at CQUniversity has focused on 'applied biology', both in research activity and the content of the aligned undergraduate science degree program. The development of Biological Sciences at CQUniversity was underpinned by a foundation of PhD trained teaching staff when the university was formed in 1992 and has continued since then, through appointment of staff with expertise relevant to both the teaching discipline areas and regionally relevant research opportunities.  Staff expertise in the School of Medical and Applied Sciences, within the applied biology field, varies across all 06 FoR codes. Research within the School is predominantly identified as Environmental Sciences (05) or Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences (07) which are underpinned by regional industry needs. However, recent appointments within the school in health-related disciplines has extended the expertise base of the biological science staff profile, leading to the emergence of biological research capability in the health sciences (physiology, immunology and microbiology).
