The Engineering Field of Research is an important discipline in CQUniversity’s research profile. In the reporting period the engineering discipline was core to the Centre for Railway Engineering (CRE) and research groups within the School. These centres and groupings include concentrations of Mechanical, Materials, Civil and Electrical engineering staff along with the interdisciplinary areas of Control and Maintenance.
The research has been focused on particular industries and includes many inter-disciplinary projects and outputs. The research is generally applied and a high percentage of activity is directly financed by industry partners. The CRE hosted the first CRC for Railway Engineering and Technology 2000-2007 and was a strong provider to the second CRC for Rail Innovation (2007-2014) and is now a major participant in Rail Manufacturing CRC. CRE therefore has strong partnerships with railway companies Australia wide as well as in the Bowen Basin coal rail systems. CRE has also been successful in near market development grants provided by the Queensland State Government.
