Centre for Research in Equity and Advancement of Teaching and Education (CREATE)

Create Concept

CREATE investigates teaching for equity and transformation in people’s lives through education.

Priority research areas

  • Assessment, Transitions & Innovations in Learning

In this area, our research focuses on equity in education design so as to better support students in online learning environments. This work also investigates how educational experiences are impacted by circumstances, pedagogy and actions of educators themselves. Underlying this are the experiences of people (diverse) in educational settings, with a focus on open and distance education.

  • Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Education Research

Through significant Industry-Education partnerships, we strive to inspire next generation workforces to learn and apply principles of science, technologies, engineering, and mathematics in real-world contexts. Key stakeholders are Schools, Marine Ecology, Agriculture, Resource and Manufacturing industries and peak bodies, Governments, Office of the Chief Scientist, informal STEM program providers, Technology start-ups and scale-ups including cutting-edge work in Virtual Reality, community organisations, Indigenous groups, and Art-Science community networks.

  • Transforming Practices & Professions

Creative educational practices can transform globally mobile professions such as teaching, nursing, sciences-related work, allied health, and even transdisciplinary research supervision. Our collaborative research in this area mobilises knowledge from education, art, drama, music, health and human services. Transformative impacts in international study mobility and employability are also included in this research area.

CREATE’s applied and experimental research impacts all sectors of education delivery internationally and nationally in regional, rural and remote communities. We engage with real life learning and teaching problems emerging from workplaces, training organisations, community organisations, government departments, schools, colleges, and universities.
