Human Research Ethics Committee

The CQUniversity Human Research Ethics Committee (CQUHREC) is responsible for assessing and providing clearance to any research undertaken by university staff or Research Masters or Doctorate candidates involving:

  • the use of humans;
  • the use of human material; and
  • the use of data or records from which individual subjects may be identified.

The standard operating procedures of the Human Research Ethics Committee are in accordance with:

Clearance must be sought from the Committee BEFORE the research is undertaken.

Applicants should familiarise themselves with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research before completing the request for clearance.

There are two (2) methods of reviewing ethical clearance: Low-Risk Review (for projects involving negligible or low risk, as defined by the National Statement), or full committee assessment - for projects involving greater than low risk. The online ethics form will self-identify which process your project will be reviewed under.

Access to the online application system is available at, using your staff or student login as appropriate. A user manual is also available.

Regular tutorial sessions are offered on the Rockhampton campus (and other campuses as required) where researchers and students can obtain individual support with their applications.

Applicants for ethical clearance are recommended to submit their request for ethical clearance at least two (2) months prior to the date on which they will be commencing their project.

CQUHREC meets monthly and the meeting dates and closing dates for agenda items are:
