Physiotherapists aim to restore proper functioning to the body or in the case of permanent disease or injury, reduce the impact of any dysfunction. This service is provided by Physiotherapy students under the supervision of qualified physiotherapists.

Several services are available for those with acute or chronic pain or sporting injuries. Physiotherapy services include:

  • Acute & chronic pain (neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist/hand, back, hip, knee, ankle/foot)
  • Sports injuries
  • Headaches

  • Strength / flexibility programs
  • Gait retraining/assessments

Podiatrists are health care professionals who deal with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of medical and surgical conditions of the feet and lower limbs.

The student-led Podiatry Clinic at the Rockhampton Health Clinic is supervised by highly qualified and experienced registered podiatrists. Our clinic provides a range of specialised services to help patients in the management of a wide range of lower limb problems, including:

  • Foot, leg, knee, and hip injuries
  • Foot orthotic therapy
  • Nail surgery (under local anaesthetic)
  • Sports taping, shockwave therapy, dry-needling, and therapeutic ultrasound
  • Skin and nail problems, including but not limited to corns, callouses, warts, ingrown nails, fungal nails and athletes’ foot
  • Diabetes and chronic disease management and education
  • Neurological and vascular assessments
  • Biomechanical assessment
  • Walking and running gait analysis
  • Range of motion and strength testing, using specialised equipment
  • Falls and balance problems
  • Children’s foot and leg assessments and treatment
  • Treatment of conditions including but not limited to plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendon problems, Forefoot pain, ankle injuries, shin splints, knee pain, and sporting (e.g. running) injuries

The clinic’s state-of-the-art facilities provides a practical learning environment for students, under the guidance and supervision of fully qualified and experienced speech pathologists.

Speech pathologists are trained to assess, diagnose and treat people with communication and/or swallowing/mealtime difficulties. The Rockhampton health Clinic provides a paediatric and adult assessment and therapy service. We are able to provide support for the following areas of practice; Speech, Language, Swallowing, Stuttering, Voice and Multi-modal communication.

Our service delivery includes:

  • Individual sessions
  • Group sessions
  • Outreach visits
  • Joint sessions (with other disciplines such as OT)
  • Telehealth appointments may be available in some circumstances.

Rockhampton Health Clinic delivers occupational therapy services to children and adults.

Occupational therapists are skilled in assessment, goal achievement, promoting positive change and enhancing a client’s ability to engage in all aspects of everyday life. All services are provided by 3rd or 4th year occupational therapy students under the supervision of a fully qualified occupational therapist.

Our occupational therapy services are tailored to each individual client and therefore may change based on the outcome of your first visit and goals of therapy. We can offer support in a wide range of areas including:

Paediatrics

  • Physical skills – hopping, skipping, running, coordination, balance, ball skills, fine motorskills
  • Self-care – dressing, shoelaces, using a knife/fork, opening lunch boxes
  • Behaviour and sensory challenges
  • Play and social skills
  • Readiness for school – handwriting, scissor cutting, drawing, concentrating, following instructions, shapes/puzzles/construction, being organised and taking care of belongings
  • Self-regulation and challenging behaviours
  • Attention and concentration skills
  • Any other task or activity that your child has difficulty completing

Adults

  • Falls management
  • Achieve a safer, more accessible home
  • Plan for the change of life roles or assess and advise on changes tasks to support to abilities
  • Provide education and advice to cope with age-specific illnesses such as dementia, parkinson's and alzheimer's

  • Assistive technology/equipment prescription•Functional assessments of daily activities (e.g. kitchen tasks, dressing) with interventions aimed at maintaining independence

'Balance 4 Life' falls and balance class

The ‘Balance 4 Life’ program is an eight-week physiotherapy exercise class held at the CQUniversity Health Clinic North Rockhampton campus. This class is designed to decrease your risk of falls or near misses by:

  • Reducing disability and fear associated with falling
  • Improving mobility and independence
  • Improving confidence with activities of daily living
  • Increasing strength and proprioception
  • Self-management strategies for falls prevention
  • Weekly educational sessions led by various allied health professionals.

'Work it Circuit' maintenance class

The ‘Work It Circuit’ program is a physiotherapy exercise class held at CQUniversity Health Clinic North Rockhampton campus. This class is designed to provide a service for clients to make functional and physical improvements by:

  • Providing an individualised and supervised exercise program – performed once or twice a week
  • Providing an individualised home exercise program – for outside of the class
  • Education and advice about selfmanagement strategies and progressions
