This online micro-credential will introduce you to both the language and theory of modern biology covering a range of topics including genetics, DNA structure and function, the cell cycle, cell division, mitosis, meiosis, heredity, cell differentiation and tissues.

Students who successfully complete the set of 6 micro-credentials* developed from the unit BIOL40108, Introductory Biology, (which forms part of the Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) CL03), may be eligible for credit transfer, pending all other entry requirements to the Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) CL03 are being met, as automatic entry will not apply.

Students can access the micro-credential for one year from enrolment.

1. Recognise the structure and function of nucleic acids, the processes of DNA replication and the synthesis of proteins in eukaryotic cells
2. Define the cell cycle, mitosis and meiosis
3. Identify heredity patterns using Punnett squares
4. Identify the three germ layers and what they differentiate into
5. Identify the main tissue types in the human body and plants.

Undertaking this micro-credential enables students to meet their Continuing Professional Development obligations and industry update requirements in their profession. Upon successful completion of the micro-credential, students will be awarded Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours, a creditable micro-credential (Digital Badge) and a Certificate of Completion.
