Overview

Biology is the study of life on Earth and all living organisms on the planet. This assessment module examines the topics covered in the Biology Essentials micro-credential set including cell theory, organ systems, genetics, taxonomy, ecology and environmental science.

Students who successfully complete the set of 6 micro-credentials* developed from the unit BIOL40108, Introductory Biology, (which forms part of the Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) CL03), may be eligible for credit transfer, pending all other entry requirements to the Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) CL03 are being met, as automatic entry will not apply.

Students can access the micro-credential for one year from enrolment.


  1. Demonstrate an introductory level understanding of the main concepts in modern biology, particularly as they relate to humans
  2. Locate relevant research on a topic to then prepare an essay following academic writing conventions for scientific essays
  3. Write short notes to demonstrate your understanding of the meaning of key terms, concepts and processes in biology.

Written Assessment - Academic Essay 

Online Test (Open 24 hours to complete).
