This course is designed for those wanting to establish roots in the horticultural industry. Horticulture is a diverse industry where you can enjoy an interesting and exciting career, perfect for people seeking outdoor work involved in growing and managing plants.

This qualification provides a general vocational outcome in amenity horticulture.

Proposed Change:

This qualification provides a general vocational outcome in amenity horticulture. CQUniversity is offering two (2) different streams choices (Nursery and Landscape) under this qualification. Both stream offers a different choice of units that are better suited to specific industries. Students will need to select one (1) stream on admission. If students are currently working in industry, before choosing a stream, it is strongly recommended they consult with their employer to determine the most suitable steam choice.

This course has no residential schools.

Each unit in this course has a mandatory practical component. Students who are not already working in the industry or attending campus will be required to undertake work placement to complete their practical assessment. Co-assessment with a supervisor is required. Students will be required to complete a total of 720 hours (7 hours per week over 24 months) of Practical skills training in placement throughout the duration of the course. Students are responsible for finding their own placement.

Requirements

There are no entry requirements, however it is highly recommended that students have attained a Sound Achievement (SA) result in Year 10 numeracy and literacy subjects or equivalent prior to enrolling in this course. Distance - Mixed Mode students undertaking this course will need to participate in work placement or attend campus practical activities where available to fulfil the practical requirements of this course.

Completion of the bksb (Basic Key Skills Builder) online literacy and numeracy assessment prior to enrolment, unless the student has completed an equal or high level course.

Fee for Service/ Full Fee

Fee for Service/Full Fee occurs when the full tuition fee is charged to students. This may occur when the course is not included in government subsidy program/s or the student is not eligible for a government subsidy. These students are obligated to cover the entire cost. Co-Contribution and Co-Contribution Concessional Fee

Some government subsidies, such as Certificate 3 Guarantee, will require the individual to contribute to the cost of their training through a co-contribution fee. Government subsidies are subject to eligibility.

The fee will vary based on the course chosen and the eligibility of the student for a concession rate. The co-contribution fee represents the total cost to the student for tuition. There are other costs that the student may have to pay, including but not limited to uniforms and course resources. This will vary depending on the training. This course is part of the Queensland Government's TAFE Priority Skills Fund. Eligibility and conditions apply. Eligible students need to be enrolled and participate in study prior to the end of June 2024 to access TAFE Priority Skills Fund.
