I'm Metesha and I'm studying Diploma in Community Services

Why did you choose Community Services?
Before I started with CQUniversity I actually was an accountant for 11 years and then actually had a career change a few years ago and went into education so where I work with families and students and engaging them back in education and Diploma Community Services actually helped me to understand the role better and allowed me to be able to reach out to other external providers that I didn't know were available.

It actually helps me to understand the actual regulations around confidentiality and how we treat people and how we treat people that are very vulnerable and possibly going through a hard time in their personal life. So how we can connect them with services that would actually be probably more available and adaptable for them to gain support and obtain support from.

How does a TAFE course compare to learning on the job?
You actually probably get access to a lot more professional networks that you don't normally have access to on the job, so doing the course at CQUniversity actually gave me access through my lecture to other networks and providers that I didn't actually have access to through the role.

I think it's probably because it had a better expansion of skills and knowledge that I can utilise in the role and then possibly in the future if I wanted to do the bachelor degree through CQUni I could just transfer straight across.

What were your teachers like?
Awesome. That's all I've got awesome. Even they all really communicative they will give you access to resources, they will send you information. uh The lecturers and the support that CQUni actually gives you as a student. So um it was a little bit I struggled personally as well had a few personal struggles at the beginning of the year and my lecturer was straight on to it and always emailing me, she was calling me and if it wasn't actually for the lecture and the support that I got I probably actually wouldn't have finished.

It's probably the actual the knowledge and professionalism of the um of the lecturers and the fact that they go above and beyond just teaching you they will actually explain things to you um and in a way that you can understand and will give you other places that you can actually get more knowledge from and have access to more databases of knowledge.

How did you find studying online?
It was probably a little bit, it was actually easy to access the material and the learning resources and to download everything and upload the whole process was really good and I would find myself you know sitting beside hubby while he's sleeping and I'm tapping away on the laptop getting them done um but yeah. Learning online takes a lot of motivation like self motivation and determination so but um it's really easy with CQUni it was really good.

Did you feel supported as an Indigenous student?
Yes absolutely supported so um the indigenous being indigenous the indigenous support student services reached out as well to see if I needed anything. Through the enrolment process the student services contacted me quite a few times to make sure that everything was going okay um and then at the end as well they contacted me to make sure that I was happy with everything and you know was happy with how the diploma worked out so it was really good.

What have you liked about studying TAFE at Uni?
TAFE at CQUni had a much better program, they had a lot more support services, the website was easy to use, the enrolment process was really easy and simple compared to other TAFE providers um and the fact that they just gave you all the support and everything it was transparent.

What's great about studying the Diploma of Community Services with Tafe at CQUni is the transparency and the support that CQUni provide you the whole way through the course from start to finish and beyond.

Studying the Diploma of Community Services with TAFE at CQUni has really allowed me to expand on the skills that I already have with the job but it's also actually helped me to understand my role a lot better and though and understanding those professional boundaries when working with fragile situations with students and families and children.
