Asset and Maintenance Management

The Asset and Maintenance Management courses are one of the leading postgraduate courses of CQUniversity, with the primary purpose to give professionals engaged in the maintenance of heavy machinery, an opportunity to update their knowledge in the field, achieve further qualifications and advance their career. Since first being introduced as an initiative from the resource industry, based on the concept of 'by the industry, for the industry', the course has now been redeveloped by encompassing not only the maintenance phase of the machines but the complete life cycle.

The courses are focussed on maintenance, asset management, reliability, safety and tribology; where you are free to choose electives based on your interest, as well as, company needs. All Asset and Maintenance Management courses are offered through Distance Education, giving you the freedom to study at a time and place of your choice and assisting you to integrate your work and study commitments.


With the Aviation Industry experiencing rapid growth, leading to a skills shortage – it’s the ideal time to pursue your dream. At CQUni we offer aviation courses each targeted at a specific area, providing you with the opportunity to undertake a range of careers in the aviation, aerospace and IT industries. We are also developing courses in Airport and Airline Operations, for students who wish to work within the ground side sectors of the aviation industry.

Our courses are designed to provide you with both the theoretical and practical skills and knowledge needed for you to pursue your career in the aviation sector. Kick-start your knowledge with the Diploma of Aviation - receive additional flight training and you may even become qualified as a civilian or defence force pilot! Learn all of the required theory needed as a commercial or airline pilot in the Associate Degree or Bachelor courses. The Graduate Diploma will then have you up and away - studying and learning the practical flight lessons required of a commercial pilot.

Our Aviation courses are currently offered at the Cairns and Bundaberg campuses – but if we have an approved flight training provider in your area, you can also study the aviation courses online via distance education.

Built Environment

Built environment at CQUniversity has been a consistent innovator in the provision of courses that meet the needs of the construction sector. CQUniversity was the first higher education institution to offer courses through Distance Education in the fields of Construction Management, Building Design and Building Surveying. Delivery of these courses has evolved to take advantages of improved technologies and offers you a study experience that is the equal of traditional face-to-face delivery but with the benefit of study flexibility.

In keeping with the innovative nature of the Built Environment courses, CQUniversity now offers you the opportunity to study a Bachelor of Construction. This course was designed in close consultation between both Higher Education lecturers and Vocational Education teachers, with the aim of ensuring you experience both the practical and theoretical elements of building and construction.


Whether you are a school leaver wishing to begin a career in engineering or physics, or you are already working in the industry and want to upgrade your knowledge, skills and qualifications, CQUni has a course of study that is right for you. We are committed to courses that have a strong emphasis on professional practice and learning in context. Our courses are offered in Bundaberg, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Mackay, Cairns and online - and you can specialise in civil, electrical, mechanical, mechatronics and mining disciplines.

Undergraduate Engineering

Our Bachelor of Engineering (Co-op) course is tailored to school leavers who want to include structured work experience in their course of study. This work experience provides a great opportunity for you to find out what engineering is really about and also gets you out of the classroom and into the industry, where you can start to build your professional network. We also offer the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) for those students who want to become a professional engineer but do not require work-placement.

We also offer the Bachelor of Engineering Technology and Associate Degree of Engineering - as an engineering associate or technologist, you will apply your knowledge of engineering principles to the testing, inspection, adaptation, commissioning, management or operation of on-site equipment, plant and systems. The latest addition to our suite of courses, the Bachelor of Applied Technology, provides the opportunity to acquire the underpinning knowledge and skills that align with Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology. You’ll acquire the core hands-on engineering skills and foundation knowledge, whilst specialising in your chosen field.

Postgraduate Engineering

Our postgraduate courses offer you the chance to further develop your skills and knowledge you gained in your undergraduate degree, while at the same time developing your employability skills such as communication and teamwork.

The Master of Engineering course offers graduate students of a three or four-year engineering undergraduate degree an accredited pathway into working as a professional engineer in Australia. Students without prior overseas or Australian industry experience will undertake internships to gain hands-on experience to prepare you for Australian engineering practice. Our Graduate Diploma and Graduate Certificate of Engineering allows you to study units in sustainability, mining, project management or rail – building on your existing undergraduate qualification. Alternatively, you may wish to increase your knowledge in a second engineering discipline.

Information and Communications Technology

Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is the study of computer-based information systems, concerning Computer Science, Networks, Programming, Databases, Software Development and Artificial Intelligence. ICT courses offered by CQUniversity provide you with a combination of leading-edge theory and the chance at hands-on practical experience to prepare you for a successful career in ICT.

CQUniversity offers both undergraduate and postgraduate ICT courses, across eight campuses as well as distance education.  The multi-campus and three-term-intake modes give you more flexibility to complete your study successfully. We also offer internships in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses and have integrated the capstone industry projects – all of these opportunities prepare you, with skills and experience to be job-ready.
The Bachelor of Information Technology, Bachelor of Information Technology (co-op), Master of Information Systems and Master of Information Technology have been fully accredited with the Australian Computer Society (ACS) at professional level and are recognised nationally and internationally.

Project Management

Project Management is one of the most rapidly expanding professions in the world and is a discipline that is applicable to many industries and sectors. Project Management is the application of processes, methods, skills, knowledge and experience to achieve project objectives – a successful project is one that achieves its objectives, within agreed quality, timeline and budget.

Project Management at CQUniversity focuses on both the hard technical and soft human aspects of project management and provides you with an opportunity to extend your knowledge, by delivering teachings and learnings put into context directly relevant to your industry. Your learning is driven by real-world case studies and rely heavily on International standards, such as; PMBOK, PRINCE2, PMI Standards and Standards Australia, as well as published literature.

Vocational Education and Trades Training

The Vocational Education and Training (VET) teams, of the School of Engineering and Technology, provide training solutions across the Central Queensland Region, with campus facilities located at Mackay, Rockhampton, Gladstone and Emerald. CQUniversity is recognised across the region as a leader in trade skills training with purpose-built workshops and facilities, ensuring you are trained using industry-current equipment. The School has a strong reputation for providing quality training to high school students, apprentices and existing workers, by providing qualifications from Certificate I through to Diploma.

Our high level of industry engagement is a key element of the School, with all staff involved in a number of activities that provides direct engagement with industry; locally, statewide and nationally. The extensive range of industry engagement activities ensures that the student training experience reflects the current industry standards and employment requirements. Our trainers possess a broad range of relevant trade and industry related qualifications and a wealth of experience and knowledge, which is continually enhanced with ongoing staff participation in professional development opportunities.

A range of delivery methods are utilised - including face to face, online and supported distance - to meet the needs of our students, and learners with previous qualifications and/or industry experience, who meet the required standards, may be awarded nationally recognised qualifications in their skill area through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
