Professional Experience – Overviews, structure and duration of placements
This topic provides supervising teachers with resources that show the prior knowledge and skills that pre-service teachers bring to professional experience at different stages of their learning in a course of study.
The resources are organised according to the placements that pre-service teachers complete in a specific course e.g. Bachelor of Education (Secondary), Bachelor of Education (Primary), etc. For each initial teacher education course, the resources include:
- Shows the recommended course structure for full-time students
- Provides a snapshot of the curriculum, content, pedagogical and professional knowledge that pre-service teachers have acquired through university coursework prior to a given placement.
- Summarises the main focus of professional learning for a placement
- Shows the learning progression of pre-service teachers’ classroom practice across the full sequence of placements for a given course.
Site coordinators and supervising teachers will find these resources useful for clarifying the goals and expectations for each placement. Information about the timing of placements throughout the school year is also provided to assist teachers and site coordinators in planning and scheduling offers of places for pre-service teachers.
Further detailed information about specific placements can be found in the Information and Guidelines Booklets. In addition, annual calendars that show the timing of each placement in a course can be accessed from the main home page.
