Please visit the home page of Arts Queensland for more information.

  • Journalling and book-making with Petra Meer: Petra has been working in the Arts and Community Cultural Development (CCD) field for over twenty-five years. She specialises in journaling, writing and drawing processes and bookmaking. Petra will facilitate a two (2) two-hour workshops. In the first two-hour session participants will create in response to the natural surroundings of the island using creative journaling processes. She will use experiential exercises as prompts to deepening participant’s connections to place, as well as to self. In the second two-hour session, participants will combine their work into one of several possible handmade book formats.
  • Poetry writing with Stuart Barnes: Stuart won the 2015 Arts Queensland Thomas Shapcott Poetry Prize. He is poetry editor for Tincture Journal and his work appears in Overland and Cordite Poetry Review, among other highly respected literary publications. Stuart will facilitate two (2) two-hour sessions. The first poetry workshop will encourage participants to ‘bend to it willingly, this patch / of earth and its green things, in their own world’, then write a poem about the interplay between landscape, identity and creativity. In the second poetry workshop participants will explore the work of their favourite Australian poet and create, from this, found poetry: centos and free-form remixes. There will be a discussion around Australian poetry, the writing and the editing of poetry, and competitions and calls for submissions.
  • Writing music with Steven Butler: Steve is a well-known and respected musician and a tireless promoter of regional CQ arts and musical culture. Steve will present two 1-hour musical performances (on the Friday and Saturday evenings), as well as facilitate one 3-hour cross-genre song-writing workshop.
  • Food writing with Nicole Anae: Dr Nicole is Senior Lecturer in Literary and Cultural Studies at CQUniversity. Her creative writing appears in Idiom 23 and Specul8 Literary Magazines and her critical work appears in a variety of monographs and key literary journals. Nicole will present one (1) two-hour session. Participants will go on a bush walk looking at North Keppel Island's natural food sources (flowers, nuts, roots, plants, etc.) facilitated by Roger Searle. Participants will then learn creative non-fiction techniques in food writing. ______________________________________________________________
