About the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Teaching)

The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Teaching) is responsible for shaping and implementing University's vision of excellence in learning and teaching. The focus of the position is on strategic planning, capacity-building, quality assurance and evaluation to achieve the University's learning and teaching  goals, in close collaboration with schools and divisions responsible for delivering education and student learning services. The Pro Vice-Chancellor leads strategic initiatives to enhance the quality of learning and teaching across the University, and manages staff and financial resources to effectively  support learning and teaching governance and quality frameworks, academic development, and student learning.

About Professor Josua Pienaar

Josua Pienaar took up his appointment as Pro Vice Chancellor (Learning and Teaching) at CQUniversity Australia early in 2016 after his previous appointments as Deputy Dean (Learning and Teaching) and Head of Program for the School of Engineering and Technology.

Josua holds undergraduate degrees in construction management and post graduate degrees in business administration and strategy, and education.

Taking an innovative approach to Learning and Teaching, including embedding employability into the curriculum at CQUniversity, his use of radical innovation to engage students and involve industry professionals in course development, design and delivery has formed the basis of much of his research.

In his role as Deputy Dean (Learning and Teaching) for the School of Engineering and Technology, Josua provided leadership in Learning and Teaching to the school.  In this role he was able to improve student satisfaction and engagement across the entire school.  Student retention, and, particularly the factors that influence progression in undergraduate university programs, were central to Josua’s PhD research.

Josua has a background in commercial construction project management and logistics specialising in rapid construction projects.  As a certified SAP R/3 Enterprise Planning Professional focussed on business process reengineering, Josua has a keen interest in improving systems supporting the core business of the University.
