About the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Student Experience and Governance
The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor is made of several portfolio areas including Student Experience, Corporate Governance, Corporate Communications, Events and Graduation, Internal Audit, Legal, and the administrative team that provide guidance to the University’s Student Representative Council. The University’s Student Ombudsman reports to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for administrative purposes but functions separately as an objective and independent review officer. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor is also responsible for managing the University Council.
About Mrs Joanne Perry
Having commenced her career in the Hospitality industry, Joanne worked at several organisations in Mackay, during and upon completion of an Associate Diploma of Business (Hospitality Management) at Central Queensland TAFE (CQ TAFE).
Following a relocation to Rockhampton, Joanne completed further study at CQ TAFE in the business administration field. After working as a Legal Secretary for several years, Joanne commenced in the Finance Department at CQUniversity in 1996. Since that time, Joanne has worked in a number of areas of the University including Chancellery, Corporate Communications, and the Vice-Chancellor’s office.
For most of her time at CQUniversity, Joanne has supported the Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s as an Executive Assistant, Executive Officer and Director of the Vice-Chancellor and President’s Division.
In 2017, Joanne took on the executive level role of University Secretary which is accountable to both the Chancellor and the Vice-Chancellor to ensure the governance requirements of the University Council are met. The University Secretary provides strategic advice on good governance practices to the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor and President, and is responsible for executive oversight of the Corporate Governance Directorate, Internal Audit Office, and Legal Office.
In February 2018, Joanne was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience and Governance) and is responsible for a diverse portfolio in addition to her University Secretary duties including student life and wellbeing, Indigenous student support, student admissions and advice; Corporate and Student Communications; Corporate Events and Graduation, Student Ombudsman, and the University’s Student Representative Council.
Joanne completed a Masters of Tertiary Education Management from University of Melbourne in 2014, and is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Director’s.
