Biloela is a rural town located approximately 120 km inland from the port city of Gladstone. In the 2011 census, Biloela had a population of 5 808 people. It has a warm sub-tropical climate and experiences warm temperatures for most of the year.
The name Biloela is believed to originate from the Aboriginal word for a black or white cockatoo.
Due to a wide variety of industries, the Biloela council named the area "The Shire of Opportunity", as it is home to extensive grazing and cropping of cotton, sorghum and wheat, and the third largest abattoir in Queensland. The Callide Power Station lies just north of Biloela, and coal mined from Callide and Boundary Hill mines supply coal to the power station.
