National Reconciliation Week

27 May - 3 June, 2020

CQUniversity respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work and learn, and pay respect to the First Nations Peoples and the elders, past, present and future.

CQUni is a truly inclusive and engaged university. This year, during National Reconciliation Week we encourage all staff, students and alumni to embrace the Reconciliation Week theme of Grounded in truth, walk together with courage. In doing so we will celebrate the activities and achievements of our many Indigenous students, staff, alumni and stakeholders.

Pro Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Engagement) and BHP Chair in Indigenous Engagement states:

Reconciliation Week offers us opportunity to consider our shared history as Australians. It is a time for increasing a knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. At CQUniversity we are committed to honouring the story of our past and creating a sustainable and common future; a future that we can celebrate together

Reconciliation means different things to different people. It could mean:

  • Changing relationships for the better
  • Forging a new relationship between the wider community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Working together to build a better future

How do we achieve it?

By:

  • Acknowledging our history and its legacies – both positive and negative
  • Recognising the inherent rights, laws, customs, religions and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of Australia and have unique cultural relationships with the land, sea and waterways
  • Respecting each other’s culture
  • Reinforcing that there is no place for racism or discrimination in Queensland
  • Displaying positive attitudes, a spirit of goodwill, mutual respect
  • Building relationships so that we can work together to create a better future.
