Thank you for creating change

In October 2017 we launched our most ambitious annual fundraising appeal to date. We called upon our community to join together and raise much needed funds for 25 scholarships in 25 days.

The generosity and support towards the appeal was astounding and together we raised more than $116,000 to significantly support students in need during their study.

As a result, 25 students received generous Scholarships in early 2018, with an additional four students due to be supported in future years. The CQUniCares Appeal Scholarships were officially presented to students at the 2018 Awards Ceremony, held in May. A copy of the Awards Ceremony Booklet and photos from these events can be found here.

On behalf of the University and our students, we want to thank our generous donor community for supporting the 2017 CQUniCares appeal. Your contribution has made a real difference in the lives of students, who will go on to build a stronger future for our shared communities.

Student Stories of Impact

We would like to share with you some of the stories of impact from students who have received a CQUniCares appeal scholarship in 2018.

Casey Jean Pomeroy“I would like to express my sincere gratitude in receiving a CQUniCares Appeal Scholarship. I put this scholarship towards travelling to Vietnam for a 5-week placement in May, 2018. I have been given the opportunity to work in orphanages, charity clinics, schools and rural villages with some amazing disabled kids and have a chance to make a real difference to their lives.
The kids I am treating range in ages from only a few months old to late teens with conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Hydrocephalus, Muscular Dystrophy, Downs Syndrome and other developmental disorders. The only allied health care most of these children get to see are volunteers and the work we are doing can really makes an impact on their quality of life. I am very thankful for receiving this scholarship that has enabled me to make a difference in the lives of these children.”

“My name is Amy, and I am truly honoured to be one of the recipients of the CQUniCares Appeal Scholarships. I would like to thank you for sponsoring this scholarship and express my appreciation for your generosity. Without a doubt, this scholarship will play a key role in helping me to achieve my educational dreams. Because of your generosity, the financial burden placed on me to pursue my education will be dramatically reduced, enabling me to focus on my studies. Thank you again for your investment in the CQUniCares Appeal Scholarship and the futures of students like me. I hope to give back to the University someday and help a student in my financial position to reach their educational goals through the support from a scholarship.”

Joel Godfrey“I am a single father of three teenage children. The transition into fulltime study has been quite a financial strain on my family. Without the support from the CQUniCares Appeal Scholarship I would not have been able to purchase a laptop for my studies. My home computer was damaged in electrical storms earlier this year and even though I had access to the university computers on campus, the purchase of my own personal laptop has greatly increased my productivity and has also reflected positively on my grades, simply by allowing me to complete tasks at home and on weekends. Again, I would like to thank the scholarship donors for their support and would like to finish by saying that your support really does make a difference to students and really helps with our ability to study and further our education.”
