Make an informed choice about University Study

Positive and encouraging support from you can make all the difference when your child is faced with the many choices regarding their future education and career. Choosing the university and degree that’s right for your child is important – matching careers and degrees with your child’s strengths and interests will make a successful learning journey much easier.

Parents and prospective students can access many resources to help with career decision making:

Career Planning Sessions help future students to make career decisions in relation to occupation and program options and cater for students who are not sure of which program they should study or what career path is the correct one for them. Sessions are available in Mackay, Rockhampton, Gladstone and Bundaberg. Bookings essential via ssc-careers@cqu.edu.au.

Program Advisors from our Student Support Centre are available to give individual advice on our degrees, scholarships, support services and more – call 13 27 86 for more.

SUN (Start Uni Now)

Students can get a real taste of university life, by taking part in the SUN program. This CQUniversity program allows high achieving students in years 11 & 12 to take up to 4 university courses whilst they are still in high school. They can enjoy a taste of university life and potentially receive direct entry if they successfully pass a course and receive their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). The strong relationships we’ve built with local industry, our up-to-date courses and teaching and emphasis on practical learning help our graduates leave work-ready. Our industry links have enabled us to implement paid and non-paid work placements as part of our offerings in numerous study areas.

The University offers a wide range of scholarships through its two faculties and is proud to offer scholarships for academic excellence. There are equity scholarships available for students from a low socio-economic background as well as for Indigenous students. Scholarships are also available for students in financial difficulty.

Many CQUniversity scholarships are established by individuals and organisations within our community who feel passionate about enabling students to achieve a tertiary education and enabling them to be what they want to be. In addition to community-funded scholarships, CQUniversity also provides your child with access to a range of Commonwealth Funded Scholarships that offer support to students from recognised equity groups, including those from financially disadvantaged backgrounds and those who come from a rural or isolated area.

Safety and Security

At CQUniversity we take your child’s security and safety seriously. We offer security all days during studying hours, whether their classes are early in the morning or late at night. Our grounds are well lit and nightly security patrols are run each night to ensure your child is safe. If your child lives on accommodation at CQUniversity you can sleep soundly at night knowing your child has individually keyed rooms, an onsite manager and 24 hour live-in residential advisors who not only care for you child’s safety but are also there to assist in maintain a friendly and supportive learning and living environment.
