English Language Studies

Our English Language Centres are located at CQUniversity campuses in Rockhampton, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.

As an English language student, you will enjoy the same facilities, benefits and support services as our university students.

Our aim is to help you gain the skills and confidence for everyday English conversations and academic study. We have highly qualified and dedicated teachers who can help you experience learning English in a supportive and caring environment.

You will graduate with an excellent foundation of the English language which will allow you to succeed in your university studies. In addition, you will have a smooth transition into your university studies as you are already familiar with the staff and support services available at the university.

The English Language Centre in Rockhampton is also an accredited IELTS Testing Centre and offers tests on a monthly basis.

IELTS Preparation

These classes will help you improve your English and prepare for your IELTS exam. Classes are organised around the contents of a typical IELTS exam and gives you the opportunity to practice your exam skills using IELTS test style materials.

General English

The English Language Centres offer General English classes from elementary to upper intermediate levels. This program is designed to improve your English for everyday communication. You will develop your English skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking and will improve your confidence in using English for studying, working or living in an English speaking environment.

General English classes run for 10 weeks

Rockhampton

Study Tours

Study tours can combine English study with many extracurricular activities including tours of islands and beaches, interaction with schools for sport and other activities, outback tours, Australian indigenous culture and other themes as requested. In particular, the English Language Centre at Rockhampton has been running study tours for a diverse range of student groups for 20 years. 

English for Academic Purposes 2

This 10 week program includes intensive practices of reading, writing, listening and speaking tasks required for university study. The program includes research, information literacy and computer skills. You will achieve a greater level of English skills to prepare you for academic study.

English for Academic Purposes (Direct Entry)

This 10 week program teaches you high level skills in reading, writing, listening, research, information literacy, critical thinking and computer skills. You are required to complete tasks modelled on those found in undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

Successful completion of the program fulfills the English language entry requirements for most programs. There is usually no need to sit for an IELTS test; however you should check carefully before enrolling as there are exceptions for some programs, for example nursing and engineering which require test scores for entry.
