Welfare support

CQUniversity promotes a welcoming and exciting environment, with a range of personal welfare services and social events designed to assist your transition into university life and life in Australia.

Being a student is not only about study. The student services and support teams across our campuses endeavour to create a friendly, supportive and understanding environment for students and build lasting relationships that extend beyond their time at CQUniversity.

CQUniversity Student Association

The Student Association is the voice of the student body, advocating for students in the decision-making processes of the University. Working in conjunction with the University, the Student Association provides facilities, programs and services to enhance the study experience of students.

Academic support

CQUniversity's student support teams work closely with academic staff to monitor students' academic performance and provide assistance where necessary. The University has put together an extensive academic support system across all campuses.

Rockhampton and regional campuses

At Rockhampton and the regional campuses, academic advice/assistance is provided through the Academic Learning Centre (ALC). The ALC is a student's one-stop-shop for assistance in literacy, numeracy and computing and Science.

Study Skills

Our staff are available to help provide suggestions and guidance on how to enhance your study skills and make best use of your study time, including time management, exam preparation, stress management and group work.

Monitoring Academic Progress (MAP)

Maintaining satisfactory academic progress is an important part of your university life. CQUniversity has put in place the Monitoring Academic Progress process to identify and help students who are not achieving satisfactory academic progress.

Metropolitan campuses

At our metropolitan campuses in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, academic support is provided through the Learning Skills Unit (LSU) - a free service offering tailored academic and English language support for students.

The unit has proven to be one of the University's best investments. Its sole aim is to provide complete support for those making the transition to tertiary study in Australia.

Staffed by professionals, LSU provides workshops on a multitude of subjects including:

  • Understanding university expectations
  • Developing critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Referencing and plagiarism
  • Oral presentations
  • Academic writing
  • Working with case studies
  • Analysing course-specific assessment tasks
  • Exam preparation
  • Time management and study planning
  • Getting the most out of lectures and tutorials oral presentations
  • Group work

If you'd prefer to work on a one to one basis, individual appointments can be made at any stage of your studies. LSU also provides a range of printed and online resources to further help students achieve their best academically. All services at LSU are free and completely confidential.

Careers and employment services

CQUniversity offers careers and employment services across all its campuses. Our career services staff are committed to providing resources and guidance to assist you with your career search, program choices and the employment process.

The University's Careers and Employment Service is available to all future and current students studying on-campus as well as those studying by distance education.

On our metropolitan campuses in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, careers and employment service is offered through our Training, Employment and Career Coaching department.

Training, Employment and Career Coaching

The Training, Employment and Career Coaching (TECC) department allows students to access a range of employment and career-oriented services. These services are provided without charge, their availability is dependent upon the student's specific or particular need. Services available to students may include:

  • Daily access (via direct email) to part-time, casual, vacation, graduate and full-time job-vacancies
  • Various group workshops, ranging from resume design, interview skills to networking events
  • Telephone interviews
  • Individual career plans and a customised employment/career advisory service
  • Involvement with community projects and volunteer research positions in industry
  • Assistance with the preparation of professional job application
  • Documentation (resumes, letters, key selection criteria)
  • Faculty and industry related talks by employers
  • Volunteer opportunities
