Upcoming Information Sessions...
The Bachelor of Science (Specialisation) will provide you with a broad foundation in the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for a career in the biological, analytical and agricultural sciences in the first year of study. You will then have the opportunity to study advanced courses and specialise in either ecology and conservation biology, analytical and molecular science or agricultural and food science in the second and third years of study.
The strong links between CQUniversity and industry have enabled the program to be designed to reflect the needs of employers, and students are able to include a work placement as part of their studies. Course content within this program utilises the research strengths of staff and provides an insight into some unique scientific issues in the Central Queensland region.
CQUniversity offers small class sizes and the provision of residential schools for external students to provide a thorough grounding in laboratory and field techniques required for both employment and research.

Ecology and Conservation Biology
This specialisation has a Central Queensland focus at both the program and course level, but at the same time will produce biologists who can work internationally. This specialisation delivers the interdisciplinary knowledge and skills required by graduates working in conservation biology and resource management fields which have increased in importance as the impacts and sustainability of multiple land use practices confront communities.
Analytical and Molecular Science
Analytical and molecular science covers areas of scientific investigation, research, analytical technique and laboratory science, equipping graduates for careers in a broad array of analytical science fields including biotechnology, monitoring and diagnostic laboratories, forensic science, food safety, food technology and product development. You will study foundation courses in biological and chemical sciences and develop a broad understanding of the core science disciplines. Specialist courses will provide opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge in analytical and forensic science, complimenting the generalist content.
Agricultural and Food Science
Science is central to the sustainable production and processing of food. Sophisticated approaches and technologies are increasingly being adopted in agriculture to improve productivity and at the same time prevent degradation of natural resources. The study of agriculture and food science examines the scientific basis of the technologies and practices used in the industry. Courses within this program will cover the agrifood chain from supply of inputs through to the retail sector, preparing graduates for careers in the many sectors involved directly in, and servicing, the food production and processing industries. This specialisation incorporates a work integrated learning approach to provide students with first-hand knowledge of the industry and the opportunity to tailor their study to suit their career interests.
Please note, this program is available for international students to study on-campus at CQUniversity Bundaberg and Rockhampton.
At CQUniversity Australia you are exposed to a broad range of areas of science in your first year of this program and then specialise in Years Two and Three. You will undertake a combination of practical and theory-based learning, giving you the skills to be work-ready. CQUniversity teaching staff has excellent links with industry and research bodies.
Knowledge and skills in science are the prerequisite for entry into many professional careers and Bachelor of Science graduates find employment in areas as diverse as chemical and material production, agriculture, medicine, mining and metals, power industry, environmental science and ecology, food technology and forensic analysis, as well as careers in research and development in the private and public sector. The three specialisations in the Bachelor of Science program are designed to deliver not only a solid foundation in scientific skills and knowledge but also the flexibility to focus on specific areas of study that are relevant to the career and employment options chosen by you.
To be awarded the Bachelor of Science (Specialisation), you must complete 24 courses/144 units of credit. Students in all specialisations undertake eight common core courses in year one and then complete advanced courses in their area of specialisation.
* Please note, Agricultural and Food Science specialisation is open to International students in Bundaberg only. All specialisations are open to international students in Rockhampton.
