The Bachelor of Environmental Science will help you achieve a holistic understanding of the science of environmental processes and challenges and an ability to think systemically and systematically about natural resource management and social and economic development.
The first year of the program (or part-time equivalent) will provide you with a broad foundation of knowledge in environmental studies, as well as developing generic skills in the sciences and social sciences/humanities, emphasising the multidisciplinary nature of environmental studies. Subsequent years will provide you with the opportunity for progressive specialisation. Considerable scope is allowed in your choice of electives, will enable you to develop a particular emphasis in science, humanities/social science, occupational health and safety, or in other fields of interest.

** Only the first year of the program is available to study on-campus at CQUniversity Bundaberg.The environment in the broadest sense encompasses natural ecosystems such as rivers and their catchments, along with estuarine and marine habitats. It also includes urban and rural communities, and the workplace, including farms, mines and industrial facilities. Environmental scientists apply their knowledge to the monitoring and management of the natural environment, enabling us to lead sustainable lives.
One of the benefits of studying at CQUniversity is that we offer a multidisciplinary approach to environmental science, combining courses from biology, chemistry, geography and sociology. This ensures that our program is better aligned to what is required in the workplace as well as making you more employable on completion.
At CQUniversity we also offer the right combination of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, including both laboratory and field work. The program is designed to reflect the needs of industry and you can choose to undertake an industry placement, allowing you to put your learned theory into practice. A workplace placement will also provide you with an opportunity to network with industry representatives and give you a competitive edge when seeking employment.
On completing a Bachelor of Environmental Science, you will open the door to a whole range of career opportunities in the environmental science industry, including roles as an environmental officer, environmental consultant, environmental scientist, vegetation management officer, air quality control officer or water management officer. Employment opportunities exist within public and private sectors for example local catchment authorities, CSIRO, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Natural Resources and Water, environmental consulting firms, local councils and mining companies.
