Environmental issues have never been more prominent both domestically and globally. The protection and preservation of the environment has become the focus of activities by communities, large corporations, schools and government at all levels. As such, a degree in the environment field can increase your job prospects and set you up for a rewarding career.
The environment in the broadest sense encompasses natural ecosystems such as rivers and their catchments, along with estuarine and marine habitats. It also includes urban and rural communities and the workplace including farms, mines and industrial facilities. Environmental scientists apply their knowledge to the monitoring and management of the natural environment, enabling us to lead sustainable lives.
Another key area of environmental studies focuses on recognising, evaluating and controlling environmental factors that affect public health. Fields within environmental health include studies and career pathways in environment effects on human health, food safety, potable and recreational water quality, communicable disease management, disaster management, indoor air quality, vector-borne disease control and waste management. Such areas are key priorities both within Australia and worldwide, resulting in excellent career outcomes.
At CQUniversity, we have established relationships with industry bodies and our program has been created in close consultation with them, ensuring the course content and materials are relevant and increasing your prospects of future employment in the industry so that when you graduate, you will have a solid understanding of environmental issues, problems and solutions.
The environmental management programs at CQUniversity are flexible in their delivery and offered by distance education, enabling you to balance your work, study and family commitments. Although you will study by distance education, you will be required to participate in a residential school/s to provide you with an opportunity for you to network with your fellow students and lecturers, as well as gain hands-on, practical experience.
You are required to have completed a degree in engineering, technology, science or business. Progression to the masters program requires satisfactory completion of the eight graduate diploma program courses. Applicants who do not possess a bachelor degree can be admitted to the masters program only via the graduate diploma. Such applicants must have extensive experience at a senior level in environmental or operations management and must have achieved excellent results in the graduate diploma program. Such applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
On completing a Master of Environmental Management, you will have the option to advance your career in a number of areas in the environmental science industry, including roles as an environmental officer, environmental consultant or environmental scientist.
