What am I studying?

Environmental issues have never been more prominent both domestically and globally. The protection and preservation of the environment has become the focus of activities by communities, large corporations, schools and government at all levels.

The environment in the broadest sense encompasses natural ecosystems such as rivers and their catchments, along with estuarine and marine habitats.  It also includes urban and rural communities and the workplace including farms, mines and industrial facilities.  Environmental scientists apply their knowledge to the monitoring and management of the natural environment, enabling us to lead sustainable lives.

Another key area of environmental studies focuses on recognising, evaluating and controlling environmental factors that affect public health. Fields within environmental health include studies and career pathways in environment effects on human health, food safety, potable and recreational water quality, communicable disease management, disaster management, indoor air quality, vector-borne disease control and waste management. Such areas are key priorities both within Australia and worldwide, resulting in excellent career outcomes.
