The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology provides you with an opportunity to continue undergraduate studies at a higher level, specialising in a particular area of interest. This program aims to develop your ability to generate new knowledge and develop new ideas out of existing knowledge.
Candidates with honours are particularly sought after by employers and can choose from more interesting research and development positions because of their extra skills and proven abilities. At CQUniversity, we have developed a challenging program that aims to prepare you for either full research masters or PhD degrees should you be interested in further study.
Completing an honours degree involves an additional full-time year of study (or the equivalent) following completion of a bachelor program, or alternatively additional study with a research element included in the final year or years of a bachelor program.

Humanities, psychology and social work are areas of study that focus on human society, individuals and their relationships, human culture and the contemporary world. They explore how humans recognise, record and debate human practises, meanings and values, including the human condition and how society operates.
More specifically, humanities, psychology and social work incorporate disciplines such as psychology, social work, writing, history, geography and environment, as well as professional communication and journalism leading to a diverse range of careers. Study in humanities, psychology and social work develops life long skills such as critical thinking, research and investigation, communication, design and planning which can assist in all careers and in day-to-day life, in fact, many of Australia’s politicians have studied similar programs.

Our programs have been designed as a way to launch your career or to allow you to pursue specialist postgraduate studies and higher research degrees, which are also offered at CQUniversity.
This program is open to students who have completed an undergraduate degree from a recognised higher education institution and who have achieved at least a credit average (grade point average of 5.5) in the discipline area in which they intend to study for honours.
In psychology, you must have completed an accredited undergraduate psychology program. In sociology, you must have completed the required courses marked with an asterisk (*) in the Sociology Plan in the Bachelor of Arts or equivalent.
On completing a Bachelor of Arts (Honours), you will have the opportunity to increase your career prospects in a number of areas such as education, government, health care, community development, writing, media and communications, counselling, research, political advocacy or social work based on the majors undertaken.
The Honours program consists of 50 percent (24 units of credit) coursework and 50 percent (24 units of credit) dissertation. Coursework consists of four courses or equivalent based on assessment. Details of the assessment and word length of the dissertation will be advised by program coordinator.
