Doctor of Professional Studies

What am I studying?

The Doctor of Professional Studies is a degree for the 21st century that focuses on creativity, innovation and enterprise to generate new knowledge in the context of application that has commercial potential.  We live in a time where there has never been such a prodigious rate of innovation, with science and technology taking the lead.  The Doctor of Professional Studies builds on this paradigm to create new knowledge in a range of professions and occupations.

You already have a solid education background but you now find yourself dealing with more fragmented issues and complex demands, demands that are hard to satisfy.  The Doctor of Professional Studies acknowledges your experience and leverages it against high-level workshops and creative research; so at the end of the process you will have achieved at least two goals: top level success; and a solution to a workplace issue or knowledge relevant to your organisation.

Entry Requirements

The following criteria are those utilised to define if a student is eligible for admission.

Educational requirements - as an applicant you must meet one of these criteria:

a)  a Masters degree or a qualification deemed to be equivalent to a Masters degree of an Australian University; and

b) Significant professional employment experience to the satisfaction of the Committee;

OR

a) a combination of training and relevant professional experience deemed by the Committee to be the equivalent of an Australian Masters degree.

NOTE: If you are an international applicants you are required to meet the University's English entry requirements.

It is essential that you supply sufficient information with their application form to enable assessment to occur quickly. Lack of information/documentation will incur delays in the assessment process. 

Career Opportunities

Doctor of Professional Studies graduates aim for high level management positions that allow them to inform and influence within their chosen field of employment. A PhD is the highest academic degree that can be undertaken.

Program Structure

2.  Advanced research tasks, which contribute to planning and undertaking research, one of which shall be a colloquium that defines the proposed research.

3.  A research project that addresses an important problem or question concerning policy and/or paratice in a profession or industry.
