The Bachelor of Speech Pathology at CQUniversity is a four year program designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to practice as a speech pathologist. You will study a broad range of disciplines including psychology, medical sciences and linguistics and phonetics, as well as professional practice.
Practical learning experiences are central to the program, and you will complete placements in a variety of practice settings under supervision. This will include being part of a multi-disciplinary team in our brand new on-campus Allied Health Clinic at CQUniversity Rockhampton where you will learn alongside students from other disciplines including occupational therapy, physiotherapy and oral health.
If you attain the necessary grade point average will be invited to pursue an honours year in your fourth year of study, which includes completing a research project on a topic relevant to Speech Pathology.

Speech pathologists work with people of all ages who have communication or swallowing difficulties in a career which is rewarding and varied. As part of an interprofessional team, speech pathologists contribute their specialist skills and knowledge, helping for example, babies born with cleft lips and children who stutter, through to adults who have communication or swallowing difficulties after a head injury. Speech pathologists work collaboratively with clients and their families to improve quality and enjoyment of life.

An academic IELTS (International English Language Testing System) completed within the last 2 years (from the term you are applying to start) with a minimum achievement of 7.5 overall with a minimum of 8.0 in Speaking and Listening and a minimum score of 7.0 in Reading and Writing or a secondary or university qualification which is not more than 5 years old (from the term you are applying for entry into) with a satisfactory level of achievement of at least 2 years in duration from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK, Ireland, South Africa or USA.

Speech pathologists can have rewarding careers in a variety of settings. These include hospitals (public & private), community centres, rehabilitation centres, crèches, schools, aged care facilities and private practice. Careers in research within academic settings are also available to speech pathologists.
The program includes a large amount of clinical education, through both university-based courses and clinical education placements across a range of clinical settings.
