Bachelor of Health Promotion

CQUniversity's Bachelor of Health Promotion is designed to provide you with a comprehensive set of knowledge and skills that reflect the National Health Promotion Competencies. Upon completion of the degree, you will have experience in managing and evaluating health promotion projects, developing partnerships with key stakeholders, using a range of practice-appropriate information and technologies, as well as being able to communicate effectively using oral, written and interpersonal skills and electronic media.

The program teaches you the skills and knowledge that enable you to work competently with individuals and communities with a focus on helping them to increase control over and improve their health and wellbeing.

The CQUniversity Bachelor of Health Promotion incorporates ten months of part-time, work-integrated learning, giving valuable practical experience and ensures graduates a work-ready. Many graduates have gone on to secure full-time employent either at their placement organisation or with associated groups they met during this networking experience.

What am I studying?

Health promotion officers work towards improving the health of individuals and the wider community, the planning and coordination of health promotion programs as well as educating other health professionals about community health issues. Health promotion officers plan and implement public information campaigns in relation to specific health issues using a varierty of mediums such as radio, TV, pamphlets and websites.

A large part of health promotion work is working in partnership with a range of organisations to promote health infrastructure and policies in order to create strong and supportive communities.

Why Study Health at CQUniversity

CQUniversity's health and medical sciences programs have been developed to meet the ever increasing needs of our communities both here in Australia and for the wider global audience. They include the flagship areas of nursing and midwifery, health promotion and occupational health and safety with new offerings in medical science specialisations (pathology, clinical investigation and nutrition), medical imaging, paramedic science, medical sonography and exercise and sport science.

Quality on-campus facilities ensure learning is delivered 'in context', taught in a similar setting to that of a real-world situation.

Health Promotion can be found in a variety of health settings such as: health, community health organisations, and wellness divisions of private enterprises in rural, regional and urban settings.

Career options include: health promotion coordinator, project manager, policy and strategic planning officers and community development officers.

Employment opportunities exist within local, state and commonwealth government health departments, major non-government organisations (e.g. Diabetes Australia, National Heart Foundation etc), private industry (e.g. medical insurance companies, corporate health companies, and health promotion consultants), overseas aid agencies (e.g. Community Aid Abroad, AusAID), universities, peak bodies, professional associations and international agencies (e.g. World Health Organisation, World Vision, Greenpeace, United Nations).

Work Intergrated Learning

This program incorporates 10 months of part-time work-integrated learning.

You are required to complete a total of 24 courses including 18 core courses and six courses from a set plan including:

  • Vocational Education and Training

There are recommended and compulsory residential schools at CQUniversity Australia’s Bundaberg Campus.
