Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled Division 2 Nursing)/ Bachelor of Nursing

A dual offer program provides you with access to commence your studies through the chosen diploma, with an alternate pathway into university.

This pathway is ideal if you may not have qualified for immediate entry to university, you might not be sure, or ready, to begin university study or you would like to just get a taste of your future career.

A standard bachelor degree is usually a three year university program. Through the Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled Division 2 Nursing/ Bachelor of Nursing CQIT graduates can now complete the Bachelor of Nursing in just two years* by receiving credit transfers for their previous study. Plus you can save on the cost of university fees by first completing a diploma.

While studying the diploma programs at CQIT you will gain valuable practical experience, this coupled with the core theoretical skills learnt at CQUniversity ensures that you will graduate work ready and are highly sought after by prospective employers.

Within the Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled Division 2 Nursing), students will study foundation nursing topics including the ability to: follow occupational health and safety policies; gather and use client based observations and information; perform fundamental and/or complex nursing procedures; practise in a contemporary nursing environment; administer and monitor medications in the work environment; apply principles of wound management; communicate with clients and colleagues; contribute to a preliminary health assessment and contribute to care of client with acute and/or chronic health problems. Graduates will be required to satisfy Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia minimum English proficiency standards before gaining registration.

In Australia all nurses must be registered to practice with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Authority (AHPRA). There are three major categories related to nursing, an enrolled nurse (EN), registered nurse (RN) and nurse practitioner (NP). A registered EN may be able to find paid work or choose to undertake further study to graduate at a university level to become an RN.

TAFE has long been a recognised pathway to university study and CQUniversity is pleased to announce a wide range of dual offer programs available with the Central Queensland Institute of TAFE (CQIT) to make it even easier for students to start their university journey at TAFE.

Career Opportunities

On completing a Bachelor of Nursing and acquiring registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, you can work as a registered nurse (RN) anywhere in Australia. Salaries for Registered Nurses start at approximately $56 500 (AUD) and given the critical shortage here and throughout the world, employment prospects are ample. Once qualified, Registered Nurses can choose from a number of nursing roles in the healthcare profession, including positions in public and private hospitals, general health services, mental health, community health, residential care, indigenous health, remote and rural health, and many other areas.

Program Structure

The Bachelor of Nursing requires completion of 22 core courses. In additional to core courses, one elective course must also be completed. Students interested in mental health may undertake a mental health elective stream and complete 21 core courses and two mental health courses. Clinical placements commence from Term Two in the first year of study (or equivalent part-time).

Duration of the Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled Division 2 Nursing HLT51607) is 1.5 years.

How to Apply

Completing a dual offer program application is easy. Dual offers allow you to apply for a CQIT Diploma and a university qualification at the same time (one QTAC application only). Upon successful completion of your TAFE studies you will be able to progress seamlessly into CQUniversity’s Bachelor of Nursing (with full credit for successful study).

Professional Recognition

CQUniversity’s Bachelor of Nursing is accredited by the National Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Upon completion you will be eligible to apply for registration with this Board and be able to work as a Registered Nurse throughout Australia.
