Graduate Certificate in Maintenance Management

At CQUniversity, we offer a Graduate Certificate in Maintenance Management that is innovative and practical in its approach, providing you with the ability to excel in the field of maintenance, reliability and engineering management.  The program is suited to those currently employed in the areas of maintenance engineering or maintenance management, who would like to advance their careers through professional development of their knowledge, skills and qualifications.

The Graduate Certificate in Maintenance Management program requires completion of four courses and provides the foundation for further study in the graduate diploma and masters programs by establishing an integrated framework of knowledge and skills essential for effective maintenance management. It is designed so that students can apply maintenance strategies, philosophies, procedures and techniques to their own work positions and complete assignments, projects and other tasks by focusing on actual circumstances that exist within their individual workplaces.

What am I studying?

Maintenance Engineering will provide you with an overview and introduction to asset management and maintenance engineering within an industrial organisation, including, business-centred maintenance, systems view of maintenance, models of maintenance, maintenance financial analysis, reliability-centred maintenance, failure analysis/criticality/root cause analysis, maintenance analysis techniques and maintenance and the environment.

Specifically designed for the professional development of current employees, postgraduate maintenance management produces graduates who can understand and apply maintenance philosophies, strategies and processes and ensures they gain the practical knowledge of latest maintenance management tools for effective decision making, strategy development, and maximisation of assets and minimisation of costs, in line with organisational goals.

Entry Requirements

Current employment in maintenance engineering/maintenance management; plus

  • an associate diploma or degree in engineering, technology or applied science; or
  • an industry background for those who do not have a recognised degree or diploma, but possess: a trade qualification; and demonstrated competence in the field of maintenance engineering/maintenance management, with either a minimum of two years relevant maintenance management experience or a minimum of five years relevant experience in maintenance engineering.

Please note trade-qualified applicants will be enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Maintenance Management and will be allowed to progress to the Graduate Diploma of Maintenance Management only after they have successfully completed the Graduate Certificate.

Applicants who do not satisfy all of the above eligibility criteria, but are currently employed in an industrial organisation in a maintenance engineering or maintenance management related role and have the support of their organisation, can apply and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Program Structure

You are required to complete a total of four compulsory courses. The courses you will study in the graduate certificate include Introduction to Maintenance Engineering, Establishing the Maintenance Strategy, Maintenance Organisation and Maintenance Systems & Documentation.

Introduction to Maintenance Engineering

Provides you with an overview and introduction to asset management and maintenance engineering within an industrial organisation, including, business-centred maintenance, systems view of maintenance, models of maintenance, maintenance financial analysis, reliability-centred maintenance, failure analysis/criticality/root cause analysis, maintenance analysis techniques and maintenance and the environment.

Establishing the Maintenance Strategy

Covers the essential elements of an effective asset maintenance strategy, including establishment of maintenance objectives, life plans, schedules and life cycle costs, capital asset management, reliability centred maintenance, controlling asset reliability/maintainability, preventative maintenance, scheduled/unscheduled maintenance, formulating the maintenance strategy and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Maintenance Organisation 

Considers the organisational contexts associated with operational maintenance strategy in the modern industrial organisation, including the complexity of industrial organisations, modelling the maintenance organisation, the maintenance workload, maintenance resource structures, maintenance administrative structures, human factors in maintenance organisations, trends in maintenance organisation, and total productive maintenance (TPM).

Maintenance Systems & Documentation

Builds on the concepts covered in the maintenance strategy and maintenance organisation courses, to develop a comprehensive understanding of the industrial maintenance organisation.

Specific courses under the Graduate Certificate in Maintenance Management have a residential school attached.  Dependant upon courses selected, compulsory attendance is required.
